How to set up GM Tech2 clone scanner?

As titled, here’s little guide on set up a GM tech2 clone scan tool.

STEP 1
Buy a GM tech 2. The Tech 2 remains an essential tool through at least the 2010 model year. Clones are available from $200-$350.

SP23-1 (no case) verify that it includes the 32 MB card
SP23-B3 no case, with 32 MB card and TIS2000 software
SP23-C plastic box, with 32 MB card , TIS2000 and candi interface

It should arrive within a week (took 5 days for me) from Hong Kong.

Some prefer SP23-B3, no case. I bought the sp23-c with candi. The unit comes with a CD and stickers.  You made your choice.

STEP 2

Get out an old laptop or buy one online e-shop. It needs Windows XP and a serial port. I run a Dell D630. You can try USB to serial adapters or newer versions of Windows but do you want to mess around with getting old software to run on new computers?

STEP 3

Download cracked TIS2000 from the software on GM forums or use the CD in package and install it on the laptop.

STEP 4

The PCMCIA card comes pre-installed in the gm Tech2. It also comes with a bunch of adapters. You find the one that hooks under the dash. Connect that to the Candi module (that comes with the TEch2) and connect it under the dash. The candi module connects to the tech2. Turn on the tech 2 (the obd2 powers it, no need for wall or cigarette lighter power) and you can read DTCs and stuff.

STEP 5

Now if you want to make changes (such as comfort close or whatever you want to do) there is a menu item on the tech2 that says “Common Adjustments”. Go in there and pick the one you want. Hit ok and then the Tech2 will say it needs security access and tells you what to do to get it (which is basically disconnect the tech2….yes it powers down…and hook up the tech 2 via ethernet cable that is supplied that hooks into a ethernet/serial connector that is also supplied that you hook into the laptop.) Connect the AC adapter to the wall to power the Tech2. You fire up the TIS2000 software on the laptop and on the main screen it says “Get Security Access”. Click on that and it communicates with the Tech2. Click through a few screens and a minute later and it says Level 1 access granted. You unhook the tech2 from the laptop and head back to the car and go back in and change things to your hearts content. Where before it would ask you to get security access you don’t need to anymore.

To make things even easier instead of disconnecting the tech II from the car and having to power it while it communicates with the laptop (the AC adapters are flaky apparently) I just run an extension cord out to my car for the laptop. Disconnect the tech2 from the car when it prompts you to, reconnect it to the obd2 for power, and also to the laptops serial port. Do everything all connected up. It gets a bit crowded in there with a laptop and tech2 and cables, but they can just sit on the passenger seat.

Part 1: Feedback Yes

- Used my GM tech II to retrofit tcs and marry a non divorced cd changer.

- reads everything a genuine one does. Heck, it's probably made in the same factory as a genuine one with a different sticker on it. Pinpoint bad air bag sensors, turned on the tpms on both our Z's.

- It works exactly like any others I’ve used at gm dealers over the years

- $339 for a brand new tech2 with a CANDI module all the cables and adapters and case is great

-connected to my intimidator ss and everything was there

- Change one of my c5s that is canadien to US to disable the auto headlights because they don't always open when they should and when they do work right they come on too early.

- You have to specify GM English when you order the unit. There are a lot of other cards for different languages Saab, Holden, etc

- Is now fully functional for F body, C5 and C6, It cost me a lot more than the initial $1000 that I thought was a good deal.

- Plugin to my '08 93 Aero and play around with the typical body and key features. My primary reason for picking up the Tech II was to program a spare key. I figured ~$500+ at a dealer or ~$400 on my own would be well worth it...obviously if I received a working, defect free, unit.

- Programming a key and changing some of the standard comfort features.

- Able to get security access using an old Dell laptop from my IT guy's graveyard.

- Programming a new key was easily as 1-2-3

- Changed my key-unlock settings to all at first press, and then lock on drive off/open on key out was a snap.

- If you had a Tech2, you could possibly talk to the dealer and have them access their TIS system to load the BCM or PCM calibration to your Tech2. Some may do it.

If you can't do that, just buy additional TIS2000 with USB key.

- Hooked it up to test engine, ABS, transmission etc, stored DTCs, Freeze Frame, live data all the test result were displayed on the large, easy –to-read backlit screen. It helped to carry out accurate and stable diagnostic function.

- Compared with GM MDI, Tech2 covers more vehicles including OPEL, GM, SAAB, and Isuzu.

-used it on my GMC for air bag warning

-Tried it on my 2006 Silverado & worked ok.

- The tis 2000 needs windows XP, Vista, win8.1, Win 7 32 bit.

- Able to easily and completely program out the TPMS system

- I have used mine to do two crank sensor re=learns and did the brake bleed on mine for the EBCM flush and it worked fine

- I am fairly certain it works on all GM cars til 2013. I have used it on my 03 GMC full size pickup, and my sisters 07 Trailblazer !!!! (and my 99 vette of course).

-If you have a 1997-2000, the TPMS is in the firmware and cannot be programmed. With the addition of the Z06 in 2001-2004, it can be programmed.

- Bleed the ABS ok.

- Used to cycle and bleed the ABS brakes on my C6 ok

-Plugged it in to my 2011 Z06, and activated the Afterblow feature. I also cleared some old DTC codes that were in history. It works just fine and the quality feels genuine. It's a pretty good knock off. Even came with all of the stickers from the Veltronix manufacturer. I assume they are knock off too.

- Used it to program my key fobs for my malibu but also have 4 other chevys

Part 2: Feedback NO

- GM tech2 would NOT work with All C5's, if you are going to use it on a C6,, make SURE you have the CAN D modules.

- Cars only, no trucks, be advised to use Allscanner VXDIAG VCX HD heavy duty scanner.

Program SAAB Drivers Door Module with GM Tech2

If you want to program the Drivers Door Module (DDM) on your SAAB yourself, you will need a dealer tool, GM Tech2 scanner with TIS2000 software, which can be purchased online to get the job done. My Tech2 scan tool is from a China at the price of $319. If you already have a Tech II, you can follow the step-by-step guide below and get the DDM programmed.

Equipment you will need:

GM Tech 2 diagnostic scanner

32MB PCMCIA Card for SAAB

TIS2000 software (Without this you would not be able to add anything!)

How to:

Step 1. Connect GM Tech2 to the OBD port of your SAAB and open the scanner and then go to the main menu.

Step 2. Select “F0 Diagnostics” from the main menu.

Step 3. Select the year of your car. Here I select “2004”.

Step 4. Select model of your car. Here I select “SAAB 9-3 Sport (9440)”.

Step 5. Select “F7: Add/ Remove” in the next page.

Step 6. Select”F1: Control Modules”.

Step 7. Select “DDM” control module in the next page.

Step 8. Select “Add”.

Step 9. Select “Checking Security Access Working” and then turn ignition key to “ON” position.

Step 10. Select “Adding Unit”. Wait the system process to 100% and then drive a test.

How to program PCM with GM Tech2 and TIS2000

You need:
GM Tech2 scan tool (Original $2000 -$3000, $309 in obd365)
A laptop or pc running windows xp home
TIS 2000 software CD and USB key (GM Tech2 alone is a scanner, with TIS2000 CD, you are able to do programming)
 
Make sure your vehicle is included in the vehicle coverage in order to carry out the process smoothly please. (GM Tech2 with TIS2000 works better vehicle before 2007 year)

–Insert the TIS 2000 CD into the computer, Tis2000 helps to get the latest calibration for the PCM
–Connect your Tech2 scan tool with laptop with a RS232 pass-thru interface
–Start the GM recalibration software program on your PC and welcome the vehicle information (year, make, model, etc.) program
— Connect the Tech 2 scan tool into the vehicle’s diagnostic socket
–Turn the deice ignition switch on and wait for the start screen
–Confirm the vehicle VIN number
— Choose the operating system, engine, fuel system, speedometer or transmission.
— Select “normal reprogramming” or “VCI” (special modifications).
— Choose the update bulletin/recalibration number from the menu.
–The system now starts transferring data. It will last about 3 minutes. You will notice that the PC screen will display a blue progress bar as the software is uploading to the vehicle. (The GM setup will not allow the same calibration to be reinstalled over itself. Only an updated calibration can be loaded into the vehicle computer.)
–When the system completes loading software, the windows will pops out “PROGRAMMING COMPLETE” message.
–Turn off the Tech2 ignition and disconnect it from the vehicle.

How to install TIS2000 software for GM Tech2 scanner

What the function of TIS2000 software CD?

GM Tech2 is a standalone scan tool mainly used for diagnostic function, but with the additional TIS2000 software dongle, it is possible to carry out ECU programming for GM vehicle models (after 2007).

Operating system:

A laptop with COM port running Windows XP operating system

NOTE: PCs validated to function with all Tech line applications including TIS Service Programming System (SPS). Other laptops may not support SPS or communicate properly with the Tech 2 and will not be supported for hardware communication issues. 

Step-by-step TIS2000 software dongle installation:

1) Insert TIS2000 software CD into the laptop

2) Install the setup driver in the CD

3) Select Activator. Select first one Activator hardware key

4) Load DATA DVD (tis2000+data+0802) to run TIS200 on desktop after compete install the setup. TIS2000 will update the data automatically.

5) Find out and locate SuperPro.dll file in TIS2000 crackfile folder after update data and copy the SuperPro.dll file to “C:Program filescosidsbin”

6) Then run TSI2000 software

7) Connect GM Tech2 device with computer

8) Start ECU programming and follow the windows prompts.
